Quick answers to common questions about access, pricing, and using Roster Generator.
What's the benefit of this app?
Time savings! Creating fair, league-compliant lineups each game of a season can feel like playing a hard game of Sudoku every time. You want to rotate players across different positions over the course of a season, you want to be equitable in IF vs. OF playing time within a game, and you want to assign certain players to play certain positions in certain innings. Roster Generator combines automation with flexibility to make your rostering decisions easier.
Is the app mobile-friendly?
Yes. We know the stress of last-minute changes just before game time. A player who said they could make it hasn't shown up. Someone else who said they couldn't make it showed up! We designed Roster Generator with mobile-friendliness in mind, so that you can make those last-minute changes on your phone and share the updated roster with others.
How do I know the auto-generation features work?
Here are the results of our tests (though feel free to test it out yourself as well!).
Here is what we did. We created a team of 10 players, and used the following league settings:
We chose these settings for testing because they are the least restrictive, so we should expect to obtain perfect balancing across the positions over time. We then ran the app's "1-Click Rostering" feature for 20 games in a row and tabulated the following results:
Heat map results:
The heat maps confirm our expectations. For 20 games of 4 innings each, each of the 10 players should ideally play 8 innings at each of the 10 positions, and each player should ideally bat first to tenth in the lineup for two games each.
For a further breakdown of the game-by-game positions and batting orders, you can download and view these Excel files:
Keep in mind that these results were based on the least restrictive league settings and without any coach or player preferences on where to play or avoid playing. Changes to any of these may result in imperfect balancing.
Can I set my own batting orders and positions?
Absolutely. On the Gameday Roster page, you can click on players' names in the order you want them to bat. You can also assign any positions you want certain players to play in specific innings. Then feel free to use the auto-generation feature to fill in the remaining positions for the game.
Also, after the roster is generated, you still have full flexibility to adjust any positions you want by clicking "Make Changes."
Why is there an option to "Make Changes" when viewing a past game's roster under "History"?
Because what actually happened in the game may have been different from the original plan. A game may have ended early, a player may not have shown up as expected, or players may have ended up covering different positions during the game.
The "Make Changes" option lets you update the record so your saved history reflects what actually happened. That matters because accurate game history helps the app balance positions more fairly as the season continues.
How does the free trial work?
You can start a full-access, 7-day free trial, with no credit card. If you decide to upgrade to the Season Pass during the trial period, your team information is preserved.
How much does a Season Pass cost?
The Season Pass is a one-time fee of $15 and provides 6 months of access from the purchase date. No recurring payments to remember to cancel.
Can I add a second team?
Yes. Coaches can add a second team pass at a 50% discount using the same account.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Roster Generator runs in your browser on desktop, tablet, and mobile.
